Weight-loss medication costs compared across 24 UK providers

The single biggest surprise for most people pricing weight-loss medication in the UK is how wide the gap is. The same drug, at the same dose, posted by pharmacies that are all GPhC-registered, can differ by well over £80 a month. On Mounjaro's starter dose alone we recorded an ongoing price of £145.99 at the cheapest provider and £229 at the most expensive — a spread of £83 for an identical pen. Multiply that across a year of treatment and the choice of provider matters more than almost any other decision you make.

This page compares the weight loss medication cost across all 24 UK providers we track, using live figures from our price dataset (last checked 4 July 2026). We look at what you actually pay in the first month, what you pay ongoing, and why "cheapest headline" and "cheapest over a year" are rarely the same provider.

How weight loss medication is priced in the UK

Every legitimate UK provider sells the same licensed medicines — there is no "premium" or "budget" version of Mounjaro or Wegovy. What you are paying for is the medicine plus the wrap-around service: the prescriber consultation, dispensing, delivery, and any coaching or reviews. Price differences come almost entirely from margin and from how each pharmacy structures its offer.

Two pricing patterns dominate. The first is dose-based pricing, where the cost rises as you move up the dosing ladder — a low starter figure, then a higher maintenance figure. The second is a flat monthly plan, where you pay one price regardless of dose. Neither is automatically cheaper; it depends on how long you stay on treatment and how high your maintenance dose ends up.

A third factor is the first-month promotion. Many pharmacies discount the introductory pen to win the sale, then charge the standard rate from month two. That is not dishonest, but it does mean a low advertised price can mask a higher long-term cost.

Mounjaro cost compared across 24 providers

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is the most-searched option and the clearest way to show the spread, because every provider we track stocks it. The table below shows the starter dose (2.5 mg, a four-week introductory dose) and the first maintenance step (5 mg), sorted by ongoing starter price. Our recommended provider, The Weight Clinic, is listed first; everyone else follows in honest price order.

Notice how the ranking shuffles between columns. Chemist4U has one of the lowest first-month figures (£122) but sits mid-pack on maintenance (£188). Cloud Pharmacy is unremarkable on the starter dose yet has the cheapest 5 mg maintenance in the table (£174.99). Because you spend far longer on maintenance than on the starter dose, the maintenance column is usually the number that decides your annual cost.

First-month price versus ongoing price

The introductory discount is the most common way a low headline number is created. Pharmacy2U and ZAVA both advertise a first-month figure around £125–£130, then settle to roughly £170 ongoing. The Weight Clinic's £125 starter (with NEWME) lifts to £160 ongoing. A provider like Click2Pharmacy takes the opposite approach: no promotion, but a flat £145.99 that never rises for the starter dose.

To compare fairly, work out the total for the first three months rather than fixating on month one. A £122 first month followed by two months at £188 costs £498; a flat £160 for three months costs £480. The "cheaper" opening offer can end up more expensive by the end of the first quarter.

Wegovy and the Wegovy pill: where they sit on cost

Mounjaro is not the only option. Wegovy (semaglutide) is priced a little lower on its starter pen — across our providers the 0.25 mg introductory dose runs from about £80 to £164, and the full 2.4 mg maintenance dose from roughly £175 to £249. The newer oral semaglutide tablet ("the Wegovy pill") is stocked by fewer pharmacies so far, with a starter price around £99–£115 and a top maintenance dose near £190–£199 where listed.

Cost alone should not pick your medicine. Mounjaro tends to produce the largest average weight loss of the current UK options, while the tablet suits people who would rather not inject. What else changes the true cost

The pen price is not the whole bill. Watch for three things. Delivery is included by some providers and charged by others. Needles should come with an injectable pen — most reputable pharmacies include them, but confirm it. And consultation or subscription fees can be layered on top of the medicine price by plan-based services, so a low "from" figure is not always the amount that leaves your account.

Eligibility also affects whether you pay at all. If a prescriber decides the medicine is not suitable for you, a provider that refunds declined applications protects you from paying for a consultation that goes nowhere.
